What is World Prematurity Day?

Celebrated internationally on November 17th, the World Prematurity Day (WPD) acknowledges the journey of preterm infants and their families.

The day is intended to raise awareness about the challenges that children who are born preterm face and also the challenges faced by their families.

This day is gaining considerable importance as the incidents of preterm birth is rapidly increasing worldwide.

An estimated 15 million preterm infants are born every year worldwide according to World Health Organization.

Sadly, the complications of preterm birth are among the leading causes of death in children under five.

All infants born preterm require immediate and significant medical care posing unexpected emotional and financial challenges to their parents and family.
